How To Move Across Town the Right Way

Moving from one end of town to another might not sound like a daunting task. You won’t travel too far, plus you might not require a hotel stay. But the process still involves plenty of effort for you to make your move work well.
You can use a few points to help you move across town with ease. These tips will help you make the moving process a little easier to follow, even if it isn’t going to be too far.

1. Start your moving day early if possible.

An early start to the actual moving process will give you a better chance of getting to your new property that night. Be sure to plan your work ahead of time and that you can get to work in the morning. It is easier to get the move going when you have more time to plan the work. You also won’t spend as much on the moving process if you can keep your plans running in one day. The timeframe should be enough for most moving needs, although it could take two days if you have more items.

2. Look at how you’re going to pack your items.

You might not require as many boxes for a short-distance move. You can store your items in various things like your dressers, nightstands, any pieces of luggage you have, or anything else that could double as a storage unit. Using more of these items will keep you from using as many boxes in the moving process as you might expect.

You can even use your car as a storage unit. You can add as many items in your car as it can manage. But everything should be secured well without risking anything shifting or possibly being damaged when getting your move ready. You can also store your more essential items in your car, but they should also be protected well where they won’t be lost or stolen.

3. Establish a suitable travel route for your move.

Your across-town move won’t be too far, but it will still require you to plan a good route. Make sure the path you choose is sensible and doesn’t take long to manage. The route should provide enough room for you to move without risking your items shifting or otherwise being put in harm while you transport everything.
The route should also be reasonable if you use a truck that will cost money based on how many miles you drive. The route should be simple without going overboard or otherwise being too hard to manage in the transport process.

4. Check on whether you need certain things before moving.

The odds are you might have things in your home that you don’t require for living. You could sell unwanted items at a garage sale before your moving day to lighten your loan, for example. The odds are someone will pay you good money for some things you don’t need, but that person does. You could also donate unwanted items to a local group and possibly get a tax deduction on your donation.

Keeping the load down will make it easy for you to move your items. You’ll keep things more organized, and you’ll spend less money on moving equipment. You could also get a good profit depending on how much you make off of selling those items.

5. Label any boxes you do have based on whatever rooms they belong to.

While you should do what you can to keep the boxes you’ll require down to a minimum, you will likely still need a few for your move. Add labels to your boxes with instructions on where the items will go, whether there are fragile items in these boxes, and where you want the item packed in a moving vehicle. Be sure the most essential items you’ll need right away are unloaded first.

6. Look for a helpful moving truck.

Since the move will be a short-distance one, you could request a moving truck in your local area. You could ask for something you can drive yourself if you prefer. The truck should be large enough to handle all your items, plus it should have enough securing materials to help you keep your belongings safe while traveling.

The size of the moving truck should be determined by how many items you plan on transporting in your move. It costs more to rent something a little more massive, although sometimes you might need something large enough for certain pieces you want to transport.

7. Get your cars ready.

You won’t have to prepare too much maintenance on your cars when getting them ready for your move. You can transport your cars yourself without having to hire someone to deliver them a long distance for you.

Don’t forget about what you will do if you have multiple cars you need to transport. You can have another family member drive any additional cars you have in your property, or you can ask a friend to assist you with the work. For cases where you can’t find someone else for a second car, you might need to arrange transportation back to your old space to transport that extra vehicle.

8. Keep your pets in a day shelter during the moving day.

You might be too busy with your moving plans to keep your pets under control if you have any. You can move your pets to a day shelter during the moving process. They can stay in a spot for a day where they can be cared for and fed.

You can then pick up your pets later in the day after you finish your move. This effort makes things easy for you, plus it keeps your pets out of trouble during the moving effort.

9. For cases where it will take more than a day for you to complete the move, make sure you prioritize whatever you handle.

There might be times when you have too many items for the across-town moving process to complete the task in one day. You can prioritize the items you want to move during the planning process. You can use this to keep the move organized without having to spend extra by staying at a hotel for an evening.

You can look at items that you know you will need and move them first. These items can include furniture pieces, office equipment, mattresses, and whatever else you feel is essential for your life. You can come back to your old space to pick up the smaller or less important items the next day.

10. Let your moving company know about what you want out of your moving plans.

The last tip for moving across town is to talk with your moving company about any plans you have for your move. Your mover should be ready to look at whatever place you will move out of and your new location. Let the mover know about what you want to do and how you’re going to get your items out of your space. The details for your move should be as thorough as possible, ensuring no one will be lost in the work process.

You can also ask about any equipment a mover will use for the task at hand. Some movers can use hand trucks for heavy items. They may also have assorted hardware tools on hand for taking apart your furniture or anything else that needs to be shipped out in pieces.
Your across-town move will be easy to manage when you look at your plans. Be certain you know what you will do for your move and that you have a smart plan for how you’re going to handle the process.
